Half Axed

Give me Another Week

The Telecaster clone is taking shape. Today the neck arrived, so I fixed the neck pocket and did the roundover rout around the body.

This thing is going to look fantastic once the Bigsby is in place. I hadn’t realized how good it would look.

Congrats on the Tele but I can not in good conscience support your addition of a Bigsby. Ugh. Big ugly hunk of metal that when used takes the guitar right out of tune.
I know it has all sorts of tradition adhering to it but … ugh.

I hope you find it to your liking though. It’s your gitbox.

    Great looking piece of work.
Maybe I should ask you to build me my ideal telecaster.
Thanks for sharing, this guitar will bring you lots of joy.

If you’ve got some scrap of that wood, practice your finishing techniques on that stuff, first.

One thing you might want to try (and it sounds counterintuitive, but run with me here…..)

Run a rag of woodworking bleach over a bit of scrap, rinse it out, let it dry thoroughly. Then apply and wipe a thin coat of stain. Maybe two or three coats.

What this does is to vastly increase the contrast in the graining. When you apply your clear finish, it’ll really give some eye candy.

If you’ve enough scrap to spare, try that technique alongside whatever your primary plan is. See which one you like better and let ‘er rip.

    Good work so far!

    I love walnut.

Looks good, but I know nothing about music instruments.

That’s all I have to say about that.

Hope the rest of the year is good to you Steve!
