Armed and Annoying

“It Could Put a Lodge Under the Skin and Cause a Bad Infection”

My Makarov BB pistol just arrived. This thing is a riot.

I put a Caldwell Orange Peel target on a box full of newspapers and put it on the garage floor. The first magazine-load of shots was sort of random, but the second 16 all went into a 4″ circle, shooting from the hip at 8-10 feet.

I wish I had time to fool with it, but I have some stuff to do before church.

Oddly, I am much more scared of this thing than my real guns. I’m not automatically conditioned to treat it seriously. I have to learn that, so I don’t find myself pointing it in bad directions. And I don’t trust the safety.

I didn’t realize how hard it is to load BBs. I haven’t done it in decades. They seem to fly out of my hands under their own propulsion.

I’ve only fired it in the house once. So far.

The power is surprising. It goes through both sides of a box with no problems. I should have ordered a BB trap.

If you’re too old to enjoy a BB gun, you’re just too old.

A goofball I know was in the habit of shooting himself in the palm with an air pistol. You can see where this is going. One day he was absently fooling with a real pistol. Fortunately, it was just a 22 and he still has a hand.

All those tools and you are not building a bb trap?

No BB trap. Old newspapers or phonebooks should orter work.

Where did you get it from?

Watch where you point that thing. I will not aid or abet a youngster (those under 55) in the use of BBs. Because BBs Bounce Badly. Even off an old Yellow Pages. Traps are a fine idea, but impact resistant eyewear is finer. .22 pellet guns make the use of BBs less of a problem, and make it convenient to use a primed case to rush a greased .22 pellet out of a centerfire .22.

    I’m using protective glasses. I can’t believe I didn’t use them when I was a kid.

I was shooting at targets mounted on an old pressure treated fence with my 9 year old Nephew last Christmas and couldn’t believe how far the BB’s would bounce over our heads.
At least having a little 4X scope in front of your open eye seems to be a good idea…

That’s why there are millions of old blind guys running around bumping into things.

    Oh, Wait……..never mind.

Looks like fun. I was pricing airsofts and the good ones are expensive, but maybe I should get something like what you got.

Oh yeah, on the BB trap, try plumber’s putty. I think “Duct Seal” is supposed to be the best, but I couldn’t find it locally so I bought ten pounds of cheap putty at HD and put it in a cheap, Tupperware-type rectangular plastic box with the lid removed. Works OK.

    Safety glasses are a necessity.
