UPS Does it Again
May 6th, 2009Motor Troubles Continue, With Decreasing Severity
My new Baldor arrived, and danged if the conduit box isn’t shattered. I heard a thump when the UPS guy arrived. I guess I know what it was.
You wouldn’t believe how hard it is to find this part. Baldor changes part numbers without notice, so you have to fumble around, calling and badgering people.
It broke cleanly into two big pot-metal pieces. They actually work, if you screw them to the motor. I wouldn’t have known it was broken had I not taken the box off.
We all know what the solution is. This is a job…for DUCT TAPE.
It will work fine until the new box arrives.

My Dad calls UPS “United Parcel Smashers”. I watched them literally toss a box marked “Glass” on to my porch. Luckily, the shipper packed the box properly and there was no damage, but still…

A long time ago, I had a boss who would pronounce UPS as “oops”…he started pronouncing it that way when they delivered a Heathkit Robot as a box of parts that never quite regained their former function (in spite of the “fragile” and “caution” labels the box looked like someone took a pick-axe to it).
.
Even so, UPS still does a better job than the average airport baggage handling facility…those are stories for another time.
