Logan 12″ Cabinet Lathes?

February 10th, 2009

Perfect Fit

I think I’ve found the ideal lathe. Logan made a bunch of 12″ cabinet lathes back in the Sixties. A couple are on Ebay now. One is a Model 2557, and the other is a Model 2957. I think. They go 35″ between centers, and they are reasonably compact.

It looks like you have to pop for quite a bit of change to get one, but the up side is that if you get a reasonable deal, you don’t eat it too badly on resale. And we don’t make many lathes in America any more, so it’s not like they’re going to crank out new ones and saturate the market.

Ah. Tool-room lathes. “Obvious” choice …doh! IF you can deal with the weight, and need the size.

…too rich for my pockets (but I’d like to have one *and* a Bridgeport too, if I had enough gelt – and space – for ’em).
