Let the Socialist Looting Begin

What happened last night is a reminder that human beings are less powerful and capable than they think. Civilization is very complicated. There are millions of very slippery and unpredictable factors that influence its function. Although we try, no one–especially not voters–really understands how it works. Voters are incompetent; they always have been. They vote based on things like looks and charm, or because of crazy, discredited ideas they refuse to let go of, or because they make conscious choices to believe proven lies uttered by dishonest candidates. We often talk about the common sense of the American voter and how it will save us, but the truth is, that’s pride talking. We are just as clueless as people in hellholes like India and Haiti, when it comes to choosing leaders. Think about it. SOMEBODY elected Cynthia McKinney and David Duke. If people like that can be elected, Americans are capable of electing the next Hitler or Castro.

We are not prosperous and safe because we’re smarter than Europeans and Africans and Asians. It’s not because we’re a mongrel master race, although we tell ourselves that all the time. We do well because God guides us and watches over us. Last night, we saw how stupid we can be when he withdraws his influence. We elected a nobody with very poor qualifications. A man who was largely sponsored (and openly supported) by our enemies. It was one of the dumbest things ever done by voters in a democratic nation.

Why did this happen? It’s obvious. We begged for it. We are proud and venal and rebellious. We have killed millions of our children in their mother’s wombs. We think sexual morality is obsolete. We are greedy and cruel. We like to go to church, but many of us only feel that way as long as pastors tell us Jesus is more or less like Oprah; a warm, maternal, fawning, obsequious presence who wants us to have tons of self-esteem regardless of our immorality. We are exhausting God’s patience.

Obama’s election is a bad sign. If God can permit us to choose a flashy liar over John McCain, he can also permit us to have an economic depression. He can permit us to be conquered militarily. He can allow Al Qaeda to explode nuclear weapons here. He can take his blessings elsewhere; maybe to Africa and South Korea. We could end up like Greece or Italy. Or Cuba. This may be the beginning of our decline into true socialism and the misery it always brings.

I feel pretty good today, but it has nothing to do with the election. I am not optimistic about America. We may have jumped the shark. This may be our Samson moment. Our divine protection may be gone, and we may be entering into a new age of mediocrity and humiliation.

Obama will get to appoint a large number of federal judges, and they will reinterpret our laws, including the Constitution, to advance Obama’s Marxist notions. Maybe he won’t get to appoint Supreme Court justices. So what? Non-lawyers never seem to realize that the district and appellate judges are much more powerful in the daily lives of Americans. What if he does appoint a couple of justices? Kiss the second amendment goodbye. Forget property rights. And the first amendment will be gutted.

Obama’s underlings will work to bring back the LBJ era. Look forward to higher taxes, more handouts, more damage to our national work ethic, and soaring deficits.

I’m not depressed, because I know my welfare is not directly dependent on the welfare of the nation. I know where the good things in my life come from. But I hate to see America get a spanking like this.

My advice for the next four years is to be astute and zealous in your dissent, but to keep it respectful. Don’t permit the existence of Obama Derangement Syndrome. We have to try to win people over; we’re not going to do it by mimicking Ann Coulter. Pray that God will guide Obama and his administration. Pray for America. Try to be good. Be a witness for God, to increase the number of his people here. And look out for yourself and your family, because very hard times may be right around the corner.

I cannot disagree with any of your points on principle and I hope that some of your statements are exaggerated fears.

I’ve got some things to think about; one of them is increased political activity in the form of contributions and volunteering.

Until then it’s purchasing another handgun or two and looking at ways to shelter my family’s income and assets from the impending confiscatory taxes.

As always, pray and keep your focus on Him.

  2. Rick C Says:

“be astute and zealous in your dissent”

Is dissent still patriotic? I’ll bet it won’t be.

Well, at least we probably won’t get hit by terrorists for a while…why would they need to hit us? When your enemy is making a mistake, don’t get in his way. Obama will humble and cripple this country more effectively than they ever could.
We do have to worry about domestic terrorists like Ayers. I know Ayers won’t be in Obama’s cabinet. He doesn’t need to be…he’s in his head.

Ah well…the Public wanted CHANGE…and brother, are they about to get it!

  4. Redbone Says:

Got news for you Steve. Since Kennedy, every Democratic President has lowered the National Debt as a proportion of the GNP, and every Republican President except Nixon has increased it.

We got beaten, badly, it was somewhat expected. America is changing, like it or not. The economy is doing poorly, we are in an unpopular war in Iraq, and the deficit is getting out of control, it is a miracle we didn’t lose more. There are some issues that Obama may do well with, I for one, am willing to give him a chance. If by challenging coal and oil producers he can effect some real change in how we produce energy, without crashing the economy, then good. If he can, again, without crashing the economy, address the issue of wealth distribution to make it more equitable, good. I believe that he can motivate a big part of our society that has been too willing to live off the government tit. This may sound contradictory, but politics has a way of working out unexpectedly, give it a chance.

Start regrouping. Give up the hard core abortion and religion dogmas. We have a good chance of making great gains in Congress in two years, but we need conservative leaders that appeal to a broad spectrum of voters, not ideologues.

  5. Zarba Says:

Amen. Unfortunately, in a democratic republic, we get the government we deserve.

This will go down as a watershed election. Many years from now, we will look back and wonder how we elected a cipher to be president.

Hopefully, he won’t destroy this country. But he will do lasting damage, some of which will never be rolled back.

Socialism kills. Ask the Russians, Chinese, Cubans, North Koreans, etc.

I don’t know what you mean when you say “we” lost. You make it clear you’re in favor of socialism. You’re not a conservative.

Reagan and Bush both increased tax revenues by cutting taxes. Where they failed was in cutting spending, and spending is the Democrats’ specialty. If we had a Republican President and a Republican-controlled Congress–real control, not tiny margins–we would see lower taxes, increased revenue, lower spending, a strong economy, and lower deficits.

Where did you get the idea that a socialist will motivate people get get off welfare rolls? Welfare IS socialism, and Democrat politicians love it, because it keeps voters beholden to them. Your remark is one of the craziest things I’ve ever seen in my comments.

The notion that energy producers need to be challenged is facially absurd. They have low profit margins already, which limits their ability to explore and do research. We penalize them for building refineries, so they decided to quit and enjoy the artificial shortage the refinery gap created. We need to be making things easier on energy producers, not harder. And we need to abandon the boondoggle known as ethanol, which makes food more expensive and causes pollution.

As for giving up on religion, forget it. God is real, and turning away from him is never the answer. Your approach is what put Obama on the throne.

  8. Redbone Says:

I know that you are intolerant of new ideas or criticism, but you are wrong, I am very much a Republican capitalist.

    1) Fact remains, all modern Republican Presidents increased the National Debt dramatically, even when they had a Republican Congress.
    2) Call Obama what you like, but he deserves a fair chance.
    3) Energy producers have low profit margins?
4)Nobody is even suggesting that you give up on religion, just keep it out of government.

  9. mcgruder Says:

We need to change the GOP.
Bush is a decent man but he did not lead us well.
We are in two wars that have cost us dearly in blood and cash and which we have little prospect of ending in honor. The economy is collapsing and Bush has authorized an expansion of spending that would have been unthinkable several years ago.

Americans understand seriousness of purpose and realism, more so than many others. I hope we return to that in the GOP.

The GOP served us poorly the past 8 years and many Americans who otherwise would look favorably on it decided they were not better off. I hope that when it returns to power, it is an altogether different party.

I support fully your comments about not becoming the Kos Kooks; Obama derangement syndrome could be the death of the GOP as a valid political party.

PS Redbone, dude. Think it out. If Obama removes, or minimizes the output of non-oil producers, we are incrementally more beholden to oil producers, who have us by the pubic hairs…and tightly so. This is called counter-productive behavior.

    4. This is a continuance of policies and attitudes largely accepted by both parties. Differences are a matter of degree.
    5. A choice our grandparents made is incrementally loping towards a logical conclusion.

  14. Chris Says:

“3) Energy producers have low profit margins?”

Yes, about a 9% profit margin (and this is pretty consistent). Google, by comparison, has a profit margin of about 25%, but because they contribute so much to left-wing causes, you never see Congressional Democrats call for a windfall profits tax on them.

The fact that oil companies made so much in overall profit ought to tell you how large the demand is nowadays. This isn’t the 60s anymore when we were the only major oil consumer.

  15. Chester_Simms Says:

This election will be transformational, but not in the way Colin Powell intended. This really is a call for the conservatives to start a grass roots campaign to return to the ideals of Reagan–remember 49 state electoral win?

Every Republican president, Senator or Congressman wannabe has to present a vision. It’s not sufficient to say: “well, at least I’m not a democrat” any more. This country has shifted. We’ve now become the generation of the satisfaction on-demand mentality. The unpopularity of what most historians of generation past would call a spectacularly victorious war is the case in point. We don’t want to feel pain and we don’t want to make sacrifices.

Let’s start at the grassroots. Let’s not whine about public schools indoctrinating out children. Let’s take more interest in what they learn at school and re-doctrinate our children. If we don’t have a sense of history and what the constitution stands for, let’s take the trouble to learn it anew and then use it to teach our children with examples and analogies. Let’s take a more active (near aggressive) approach in parent-teachers associations, calling-up liberal ideologies in public school when we deem is necessary. Let’s choke public schools but making the financial sacrifices to put our children in private schools if we can afford it.

Let’s go after the media and find ways to hit them where it will hurt most–at their wallets. There’s no doubt that if the past is any indication, Obama will screw up and take this country down with him. But let’s be ready with an alternate vision. It’s worked before with Reagan and with Gingrich’s revolutionary congress of 2004.

Civilization can never be destroyed from the outside, unless it’s hollowed out from the inside. We’ve reached a point where we cannot see through moral bankruptcy (Bill Clinton), a weasel (Kerry) and socialist/Marxists (Clinton/Obama). It means that a sea change is necessary among the citizenry.

We have to reach out beyond blogs. As Steve once put it (I paraphrase) a blog is really not even pimple on the ass. Here we merely preach to the already initiated.

This is really for the children.

The ObaMessiah figures to be able to replace the two oldest Supremes (Stevens & Ginsburg) with 2 40-something year old ACLU lawyers. It is very likely that he would get one or two or up to five more in the first term.

Souter (69) and Breyer (70) are liberals
Kennedy (72) is the swing vote
    Scalia (72) is conservative.

We could see 7 40-sonething ACLU attorneys on the court before 2012. It wouldn’t matter if the Executive and Legislative branchs swung back conservative at that point – the court would be the super-legislature to impose the liberal agenda for the next 30 to 40 years.

    Give Obama a Chance?

It’s out of our hands now. The Democrats own the house, the Senate, and the Presidency. It’s all them now.

The Democrats have been whining, bitching and complaining for years. Well, they have all the reins of power now. They have no excuses anymore, good luck.

I wrote this to my wife this morning. She was not apoplectic last night, but is VERY concerned. She was born in a communist country, and Obama reeks of communism to her (and anyone with a brain):

“I am feeling good today. I am not upset. I don’t pin my hopes and dreams on politicians. We may see some insanity, but we will get through, working together, and God willing. I derive fulfillment, happiness, and hope from my wonderful family.”

    She replied:

“Totally. We are only devoted to God, our family and friends.”

John Adams said all democracies eventually commit suicide. Look at the descent of Britain in the last 100 years (roughly beginning at the time they screwed Jews by breaking the Balfour Agreement and carved off 2/3 of Palestine to form a new fiction, Transjordan). Britain is no longer a major world power and Londonistan has an effective occupying force of 600k angry Wahhabis. Athens was once the great world power, but at the end of their time, the elitists bickered over just how small they could cut their army… until the barbarians overran them without a fight.

When foreign policy ALWAYS allows an enemy a first strike, it’s only a matter of time before one such enemy learns to make that first strike fatal.

  26. Guaman Says:

    Redbone,

First, there is a serious lag time between governmental action and actual effect. Clinton’s wonderful budget was due to Reagan’s tax cuts; the economy and revenues boomed then cold war victory allowed the peace dividend meaning the POTUS after those actions of Reagan couldn’t help but have a balanced budget. It’s always great to follow someone who did things right – you can let ’em go to hell and the lag effect leaves someone else catching it. GW Bush was the one catching the Clinton crap. This credit meltdown crap is also a fine example of the lag between action (lending to non-credit worthy persons) and effect (fluffed real estate values, defaults and tons of bad paper out there in the house of cards).

Demand for immediate gratification is the hallmark of immature and ignorant people. Gullibility is the visible trait of those who deny reality. People intuitively know this to be true – remember the spontaneous response from the audience when Palin debated Biden? She inferred that this whole credit mess was our failure as individuals to believe what we knew was true.

The whole thing boils down to personal freedom and property rights as individuals. All else is distraction from the fundamentals.

    Good luck to us all.

The most disturbing sentiment I’ve seen here is the “lets just sit back, give Obama a chance, and see what he does with it.”

So many of the people who voted for him did just that during the election run-up: failed to really look into who he is, what he believes, and what he has (or hasn’t) done in the last several years.

I, for one, will be watching very closely. Check daily the list of “Executive Orders” he churns out, effectively allowing him to implement policy without having to get it vetted/approved by Congress.

And watch very closely what sort of international treaties and agreements he tries to get us tied up in.

I honestly do not think that this man has the best interests of America at heart. He is far more beholden to world opinion and special interests than the foundational traditions of this Country. Heck, he flat out said that he wants to fix the “flaws” in the Constitution!

  28. Zhang Fei Says:

I think there’s too much soul-searching going on here, when the principal reason for McCain’s defeat is simple – he was outspent 8 to 1. I think McCain principal mistake was to go for Federal financing. That limited him to $80m. Reagan couldn’t have won, if he had only had 1/8 of his opponent’s funding. Remember the movie “300”? The protagonists were great fighters but there were only 300 of them. In real life and on-screen, the “300” lost. They gave a good account of themselves, but they *lost*.

The real lesson of McCain’s defeat is that in the real world, numbers matter and do influence outcomes. Note that I’m no McCain fan, but the first principle of post-mortems is to figure out which one of these things is different from the usual run of things. In this case, it was the money. Bush raised $600m to win against Kerry. McCain tried to do it with $80m. It was a bridge too far.

We are a country that has a creed of A givernment of the people, by the people and for the people. We are not a democracy as much as we are a republic. Our founding father’s created this country with more than 2 political parties, and usually anything that ever got done. Took everyone to get it done. I have lived long enough to see both parties (which i am a conservative plain and simple) have power and both have used that power to benfit thier political agenda and or socialites. I don;t give a a rats #@* who someone wants to blaim for this that or the other. Someone said earlier we get a government we deserve. Ah-no! Any government who has the power to give you anything is also a giverning entitity that has the power to take it away. So as i started. We are the government. The politicians are just that politicians who no longer are seeking power for some greater civil service anymore, but make a career off the american people’s hard earned work. Both parties, have done this and both parties are to blame. So everyone can try to predict what we will happen, and some of those things may and some will be bad, terrible or desatrous. Some may even be good or better yet, unexpected and better in the long run. Either way. Nothing will ever get done, change or improve without everyone’s involvement. Can we all stop acting like children, as it will be by our citizens that obviously need to show good leadership, seeing the governing isn’t going to anytime soon.
