Still Small Voice or Big Imagination?

Keeps Passing Tests

Today I got up and did my usual prayer and communion thing. I have been trying to learn to hear from God. One thing I’m trying is asking for guidance as to which scriptures I should read in the morning.

Weird things happened last week. Let me see if I can remember the facts. One morning, I asked what I should read, and I heard “Josiah.” But there is no book of Josiah. So I read Jeremiah. And it turned out the part I was reading was about Josiah, the last good king of Israel. Score one for God.

The next day, I tried again, and I heard “Rehoboam.” There is no book of Rehoboam. But I looked Rehoboam up, and once again, the scriptures I was looking at referred to Josiah. Three hundred years before he was born, a prophecy named him and said he would be a reformer.

That makes two.

A day or two after that, I wanted to read about the temptation of Christ. My mind said, “That’s in Matthew 4.” I don’t know the gospels that well. I know John 3:16, but I don’t know which book or chapter goes with which story. But I opened the Bible anyway, and there I found Jesus, refusing to jump off the temple. And he cited the psalm I was in the process of memorizing, which is number 91.

Almost creepy.

Today, I heard “Malachi 3:11.” My first thought was that I hoped Malachi had a third chapter. I didn’t know. But I looked. Here is what I saw:

And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the LORD of hosts.

Dang.

I’ve heard that verse a lot. It’s very popular among prosperity preachers, both good and bad. It expresses a concept which has been on my mind lately, because I think my family has been under a curse. But I didn’t know the chapter and number!

I felt like documenting it.

I’m wondering if I should have gotten a DVD receiver for the truck. Why? Because a DVD receiver will accept a rearview camera. My truck is so big, I have no idea what’s going on behind it. Also, a DVD receiver will have a bigger screen for navigating folders and finding music.

I can send the new CD receiver back to Crutchfield. Thoughts?

Don’t bother with the cost of a DVD receiver just so you can have a rearview camera. As other people have said here trucks are designed so that the side mirrors should give you all the coverage you need. If you’re really using a truck chances are your bed is too full to use the rear mirror anyways!. Besides, cameras are just another thing to have break. What happens if you’re in a SHTF situation and you can’t backup without using your relatively fragile electronic doohickey?

I can’t see anything below chest level back there. Yesterday I had to avoid a post in a parking lot, and it was not easy.
    .
Cameras mount on license plate screws these days. Shouldn’t be in the way.
    .
I can get a separate monitor, but then I have to put more hardware in my dash, and I don’t get the nice screen for music navigation.
    .
I have no interest in bluetooth or movies, so those capabilities are wasted.
    .
    Hard choice.

Costco had a small camera that attace to the top of your license plate and a wire runs to a 5 inch screen on your dash. It is powered by the reverse lights, so is only on when you are backing up. It cost about $90. Crutch field should have something similar, perhaps wireless for ease of hookup. Lots cheaper than a DVD receiver.

That’s true, but you still need a screen. The increased price of the DVD receiver includes a camera and screen.

Oh, I guess I was thinking of my son’s DVD/GPS with 8 inch screen that cost $1600 which is way too rich for my blood, perhaps you are refering to something less dear.

  6. Steve H. Says:

    WAY cheaper.

I take it you can navigate a DVD full of MP3s with it and have a usb or chip slot besides? If so, I can’t see you not doing it.

I dunno nuthin about trucks and cameras, but I think it’s interesting how you (I’ve read you for a long time, but rarely comment) and another guy I read both used to be perfectly normal (ok, not exactly normal) guys without much faith to speak of, to being guys with Christ written all over your blogs. Both of you see things in scripture that can’t possibly be coincidence (I think). I’m not really going anywhere with this. Just think it’s interesting.

I actually dreamed about you one night. You were on a plane from Florida to here, and you were bringing me something. You also thanked me for my prayers. I took that as a sign I needed to start praying for you, so I have been. That was about 4 or 5 months ago, maybe. I’m not 100% sure. I’m sure my family would think I’m nuts, praying for a guy I’ve never met, but I just pray for who God tells me to pray for. 🙂

What you read and posted today has direct bearing on something I’ve been thinking about all day, and suddenly I feel tons better.

Cindy, I think he’s bringing “something” to all of us readers! Steve, I had an interesting experience with Psalm 91, also. A co-worker was going through some hard times in her marriage, and right after she told me about it I saw a front license plate “Psalm91.” I looked it up, printed it out for her, and she has had it next to her desk ever since. It is pretty amazing what we can hear when we are quiet and listening to God!
